While key duplication technically is a form of key cutting, it involves the use of an original key. Can I duplicate car keys at the hardware store?
We do not recommend doing this. while some hardware stores can copy typical house keys and mechanical car keys ( although very rarely do actually duplicate car keys….), hardware stores cannot copy high security keys, and never have the technically Advanced Equipment that’s necessary to reprogram automobile key fobs or vehicle transponders
Can you duplicate all car key types?
In order to duplicate your car key, you will need at least a single physical metal key. If you don’t have the physical Key, you will need our car key replacement services. If you want to cut a smart key from code, you will need our key for programming and replacement services, which is technically a different service, and will require proof of ownership of the vehicle itself, as well as the unique transponder code of the vehicle.
Can I start my car with duplicate keys?
If you have an older car that works without a transponder, the simple mechanical duplicate key will operate your vehicle ignition and engine.
